The colors used to weave Raven was inspired by the Chickasaw creation story. In the story, Crayfish dove into the water and brought up the mud to make the earth. Raven then flew over the land to shape the earth into mountains and valleys. Materials: 50% bison/50% merino yarn blend, 50% bison/50% muga silk yarn blend. Shawl pin is made with aromatic cedar and makore wood, acrylic resin, and brass. Dyed goose feathers. Techniques: The shawl is handwoven (no loom) using the interlinking sprang technique. Goose feathers were attached to the shawl using the same ancient technique that was used to create feather capes. Shawl pin was made by cutting out two different pieces of wood with a laser engraver, putting them together and coating them with acrylic resin. The Raven is scheduled to part of two exhibitions. Anyone wishing to purchase The Raven will agree to allow this piece to be on exhibition and will receive it after October 1, 2021.
